Vellumproof

Tamper-Evident Authorship Records

Your novel, entered into evidence.

Vellumproof binds every draft, timestamp, and writing session into a sworn, tamper-evident record of your manuscript — so when anyone asks whether a human wrote your book, the proof is already on file.

Free for your first manuscript · Private by default · Your words never train anything

A green clothbound hardcover stamped in gold foil reading Understudy, tagged with a red Exhibit A sticker, resting on a sworn affidavit of authorship

A finished file proves nothing — anyone can paste 80,000 words and call it a draft. A history is different. It shows the book growing, day by day, in a record no one can quietly rewrite.

Statement of Procedure
In re: how a manuscript becomes evidence

Bring the files you already write

Word documents, Markdown, plain text — drop them in as you go. Vellumproof reads the manuscript itself, so every word count is measured from the actual text, never from what anyone claims.

Watch your rhythm take shape

A book grows at a human pace: a few thousand words a day, over weeks and months. Your cadence graph and daily activity squares make that rhythm visible — and the rhythm itself is evidence.

Every version, sealed in sequence

Each version you save is timestamped by our clock — not yours — and chained to the one before it. The timeline can’t be reordered, backdated, or quietly swapped; any tampering breaks the chain.

Hand over proof, not promises

Export a signed, machine-verifiable record and a shareable proof page. A publisher or contest can confirm your timeline is intact without ever touching your account — or your drafts.

What’s inside

A vault built for manuscripts

Version history

Every draft you’ve ever saved, kept for good. Go back to Tuesday’s chapter — or last spring’s — and download it exactly as it was.

Prose diffs

See what changed between versions as sentences, not code — insertions and cuts marked the way a copyeditor would mark them.

Counts & cadence

Honest numbers, measured from the text: totals per version, words per day, and the long shape of your writing life.

The proof page

A page you can hand to anyone who asks the hard question: the timeline, the seals, and a plain verdict — intact, or not.

Your words, your rights

Your words stay yours.

A manuscript is the most private thing a writer owns. Vellumproof treats it that way. Your prose is never fed to an AI, never used to train a model, and never handed to anyone else. We seal it, we timestamp it, we keep it — and we make our money from the vault, not from your pages.

  • Never fed to an AI. Not ours, not anyone’s.
  • Never used to train a model.
  • Never shared, never sold. Your draft doesn’t leave your account.
  • Magic-link sign-in. No password sitting in a database waiting to leak.
  • Every version sealed and tamper-evident. Alter or backdate a page and the seal breaks.
  • Yours to erase, whenever you want.
An Honest Note

We won't oversell it.

Upload a finished file and we seal it — a deterrence-grade snapshot, timestamped and chained to the version before. Honest evidence, but not ironclad: a patient cheater who drip-feeds AI text in believable daily chunks can still mimic a real writer’s cadence. Write in the Editor and we go further — your words are observed, watched keystroke by keystroke into a live-witnessed record that is far harder to fake. Neither one proves, cryptographically, that a human wrote your book, and every export says exactly that.

Schedule of Fees
filed with every vault, effective in perpetuity

One manuscript, free. Forever.

Every vault starts free — one manuscript, every version kept for good, no time limit. For more than one manuscript at a time, five dollars a month keeps the whole shelf sealed the same way.

Questions & answers

Answers, on the record

Is my manuscript private?
Yes. Your manuscript never leaves your account, never gets shared, and never gets sold. You sign in with a magic link — there’s no password to leak — and you decide if and when to hand anyone a proof page. Sharing is something you do on purpose, never a default.
Does an AI read or train on my writing?
No. Your prose is never sent to an AI and never used to train a model — not ours, not anyone’s. Vellumproof measures word counts and shows you diffs, but that math runs on our own server and stops there. Your sentences aren’t feeding a machine.
Can I prove I wrote my book?
You can show your work. Vellumproof seals every draft the moment you save it, timestamps it by our clock, and chains each version to the one before. The result is a history no one can quietly reorder or backdate — and a shareable proof page a publisher or contest can check without touching your account. It’s honest evidence, and we’re upfront about its limits: a tamper-evident history is very hard to fake, but it isn’t cryptographic proof that a human typed every word. Every export says so plainly.
Can I delete my work?
Yes. Your drafts are yours to remove. Delete a single manuscript whenever you want, and it’s gone. We keep every version for good so you never lose one — but “for good” is our promise to you, not a lock on you.
Can a publisher verify my proof without an account?
Yes. Your proof page is a link anyone can open — a publisher, an agent, a contest judge. They see your timeline, the seals, and a plain verdict: intact, or not. They never sign in, never see your account, and never touch your drafts. You can also export a signed, machine-verifiable record they can check with software.
A Note from the Founder

We currently live in a world where creative people are having to prove that they created the work that they created. I have been writing fiction, unpublished because that is the hard part, since 2014. But I am terrified that someone is going to think that my normal writing tics are AI and ruin all dreams I have of getting published.

Vellumproof exists to provide evidence that you wrote your story. Tracked, timestamped, there is even a timelapse. The examples on the site are from my actual writing that I have been doing since I built this. It is proof that those words are mine and if there is ever a question I have a public proof page I can show of me doing the work.

Give it a try,
Dylan
